Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Administer medications and treatments accurately as prescribed by medical practitioners.
  • Monitor, record, and report vital signs, symptoms, and patient progress to the nursing team.
  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring comfort and clear communication.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records and comprehensive documentation.
  • Assist patients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, feeding, and mobility.
  • Prepare and maintain a safe, clean, and organized clinical environment.
  • Collaborate effectively and respectfully with the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Educate patients and their families on health maintenance, illness prevention, and discharge instructions.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to emergency situations and provide basic life support.
  • Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Diploma in Enrolled Nursing or equivalent qualification.
  • Current and valid registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as an Enrolled Nurse.
  • Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience in a hospital setting.
  • Proficiency in administering medications and performing a wide range of basic nursing procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and calmly in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong commitment to patient safety, quality care, and ethical practice.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a specialized unit (e.g., surgical, medical, paediatric, or critical care).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Familiarity with hospital information systems and electronic patient records.
  • Proficiency in an additional South African language (e.g., isiZulu).
