Job Description
We are actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Electrician specializing in commercial building wiring installation to join our dynamic team. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems within various commercial structures. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of electrical codes, wiring diagrams, and safety protocols, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship. Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical diagrams to determine wiring layouts and system specifications.
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, conduits, cables, equipment, and fixtures in commercial buildings.
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components, ensuring proper termination and insulation.
- Install and troubleshoot control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels.
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on electrical systems to identify and resolve potential issues before they escalate.
- Ensure all electrical installations comply with the Nigerian Electrical Safety Standards (NESS), local building codes, and industry best practices.
- Conduct tests on electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of the system.
- Diagnose and repair malfunctioning electrical systems, apparatus, and components, applying logical troubleshooting techniques.
- Work safely and efficiently, adhering strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, and promoting a safe work environment for all personnel.
- Collaborate effectively with construction managers, other trades, and clients to ensure project timelines and specifications are met efficiently and effectively.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and inspections completed for documentation purposes.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior electricians or apprentices, fostering their professional development and ensuring adherence to company standards.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Extensive knowledge of commercial electrical wiring methods, installation techniques, and best practices.
- Strong understanding of the Nigerian Electrical Safety Standards (NESS) and local building codes.
- Demonstrated ability to install and troubleshoot various electrical components and systems (e.g., lighting, power distribution, panels, conduits, grounding).
- Expertise in using electrical testing equipment (multimeters, meggers, circuit tracers, etc.).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills for diagnosing complex electrical issues.
- High level of precision and attention to detail in all work, ensuring faultless installations.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team in diverse project environments.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with team members and clients.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual tasks, including lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and working in confined or elevated spaces.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification from a recognized electrical trade body or institution (e.g., NEPA/PHCN certification).
- Experience with advanced commercial building electrical systems (e.g., fire alarm systems, security systems, data cabling infrastructure).
- Familiarity with energy-efficient electrical solutions and smart building technologies.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
