Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated General Electrician to join our growing team, primarily based in Kenhardt, Northern Cape. As a General Electrician, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures in various settings, including commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and residential properties as part of our broader construction and infrastructure projects.
Your role will be crucial in ensuring the reliability and safety of all electrical installations, adhering strictly to national electrical codes and company standards. You will diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues, perform routine inspections, and implement preventative maintenance schedules to minimise downtime. Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
- Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
- Lead and supervise junior electricians and apprentices when required.
- Read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to determine the methods and sequence of assembly.
- Adhere to all relevant safety regulations, codes, and company policies, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Complete all necessary documentation, including work orders, maintenance logs, and safety reports.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other trades to ensure seamless project execution.
Required Skills
- National Technical Certificate (N3 or higher) in Electrical Engineering/Trade Test Certificate.
- Valid Wireman's License (Single Phase and Three Phase).
- Minimum of 4 years (48 months) proven experience as a General Electrician.
- Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and components.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
- Strong understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and relevant electrical regulations.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of renewable energy systems (e.g., solar PV installations).
- Experience with industrial control systems (PLCs, VFDs).
- First Aid and Fire Fighting certification.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using electrical testing equipment and tools.
