Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrician specializing in commercial wiring to join our dedicated facilities management team. This crucial role involves maintaining, troubleshooting, and installing electrical systems within our company’s diverse commercial premises located in Surulere, Lagos. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety, functionality, and efficiency of all electrical infrastructure, from routine maintenance tasks to complex new installations and upgrades. You will work independently and as part of a team, adhering strictly to industry standards, safety regulations, and company protocols. This position requires a proactive individual with a keen eye for detail, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship. You will be instrumental in preventing electrical failures, responding to emergencies, and implementing sustainable electrical solutions that contribute to our operational efficiency and occupant comfort.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform skilled electrical maintenance, repair, and installation tasks on commercial electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, control systems, and machinery.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical malfunctions using appropriate testing devices, reading blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics accurately.
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, ensuring compliance with local electrical codes and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections of electrical systems to identify and correct potential hazards or areas for improvement.
- Manage and maintain electrical panels, generators, transformers, and other high-voltage equipment on company premises.
- Collaborate with other facilities team members and external contractors on multidisciplinary projects, ensuring electrical work integrates seamlessly.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used and time spent.
- Respond promptly to electrical emergencies, identifying root causes and implementing effective, lasting solutions.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and company policies, ensuring a safe working environment for self and others.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a commercial electrician, particularly with complex wiring and distribution systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical diagrams.
- Strong knowledge of electrical codes, safety standards (e.g., IEE, IEC), and best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical faults effectively.
- Expertise in installing and maintaining various electrical components and systems.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical dexterity and ability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in various conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade Test Certificate I, II, or III in Electrical Installation.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., COREN registration for technicians, or similar local equivalents).
- Experience with building management systems (BMS) or smart building technologies.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
