Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team within the energy sector. This role is crucial for the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of our electrical infrastructure, including power generation plants, transmission lines, distribution networks, and renewable energy projects. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of Rwanda’s energy supply. You will be involved in technical analyses, project management, and operational support, working closely with various departments to deliver impactful energy solutions. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to national development goals, particularly in expanding energy access and integrating sustainable energy practices. You will be expected to apply principles of electrical engineering to solve complex challenges, optimize system performance, and uphold the highest standards of safety and environmental stewardship. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and oversee the installation of electrical systems and components for power generation, transmission, and distribution projects.
  • Conduct technical analyses, feasibility studies, and site assessments for new and existing energy infrastructure.
  • Perform system fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and provide effective solutions to maintain operational continuity.
  • Prepare technical specifications, engineering drawings, and reports in compliance with national and international standards.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring projects are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including civil engineers, environmental specialists, and project managers.
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations, environmental policies, and quality control standards in all engineering activities.
  • Support the integration of renewable energy sources (solar, hydro, geothermal) into the national grid.
  • Participate in the commissioning and testing of new electrical equipment and systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in the energy sector, power generation, transmission, or distribution.
  • Strong understanding of electrical power systems, grid operations, and safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
  • Familiarity with national and international electrical codes and standards.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively in a team environment.
  • Fluency in English (both written and spoken).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with renewable energy project development and integration.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.
  • Proficiency in Kinyarwanda and/or French.
