Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Educational Assistant to join our team, providing essential support to students and teachers within our dynamic school environment. In this crucial role, you will work directly with students who may require additional assistance to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This includes supporting students with diverse learning needs, behavioral challenges, or those requiring physical assistance. Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, assisting with academic tasks, organization, and independent work.
- Assist teachers in preparing and modifying instructional materials to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Implement individualized program plans (IPPs) and behavioral intervention plans as directed by the teacher and specialists.
- Observe and document student progress, behavior, and any relevant incidents, reporting information to the classroom teacher.
- Facilitate positive social interactions and model appropriate behavior for students.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, recess, lunch breaks, and field trips.
- Assist students with personal care routines, mobility, and adaptive equipment as needed.
- Support classroom management strategies and help maintain a safe, orderly, and engaging learning environment.
- Collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and other school personnel to ensure comprehensive student support.
- Attend professional development sessions and staff meetings as required.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.
- Demonstrated patience, empathy, and understanding of diverse student needs.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under the direction of a classroom teacher.
- Basic knowledge of child development and learning principles.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
- Physically able to assist students with mobility and adaptive equipment, and to participate in various classroom activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in an Educational Assistant program, Child and Youth Care, or a related field.
- Previous experience working with children or youth, particularly in an educational setting or with special needs.
- Knowledge of various learning strategies and behavioral intervention techniques.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience with assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
