NBK is seeking a highly skilled and analytical Economist to join our dynamic Global Markets Research team in Kuwait City. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct rigorous in-depth macroeconomic analysis, focusing on global, regional (GCC), and local (Kuwait) economies, identifying key risks and opportunities.
- Develop, maintain, and refine sophisticated econometric models to forecast critical economic indicators such as GDP growth, inflation, interest rates, exchange rates, and commodity prices.
- Prepare and disseminate regular comprehensive economic reports, market commentaries, and incisive thematic research papers for internal use, client distribution, and public release.
- Monitor financial markets, including equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, and commodities, assessing their intricate interaction with underlying economic trends and policy developments.
- Present research findings, economic outlooks, and strategic recommendations to various stakeholders, including senior management, investment committees, business units, and external clients.
- Collaborate effectively with other research teams, investment strategists, and business units to integrate economic insights into broader strategic planning and product development initiatives.
- Stay continuously abreast of relevant economic policies, regulatory changes, geopolitical developments, and technological advancements impacting the financial landscape globally and regionally.
- Respond promptly and thoroughly to ad-hoc requests for economic data, analysis, and expert opinions from internal departments and key clients.
- Contribute proactively to the enhancement of research methodologies, data sources, analytical tools, and predictive models to maintain NBK's competitive edge.
- Represent NBK at industry conferences, seminars, and media engagements as required, providing expert commentary on economic developments.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Economics, Econometrics, Quantitative Finance, or a closely related quantitative field from a reputable university.
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable experience as an Economist or similar analytical role, preferably within a financial institution, reputable research firm, central bank, or sovereign wealth fund.
- Profound understanding of macroeconomic principles, financial market dynamics, and advanced econometrics.
- High proficiency in statistical software packages (e.g., EViews, Stata, R, Python for data analysis and modeling).
- Exceptional analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Superior ability to communicate complex economic concepts clearly, concisely, and persuasively, both verbally and in sophisticated written reports (fluency in English is essential; Arabic is highly advantageous).
- Proven ability to conduct independent, rigorous research, generate original insights, and defend conclusions effectively.
- Expertise in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Economics, Econometrics, or a related quantitative field.
- Demonstrable experience with Bloomberg Professional, Refinitiv Eikon, or similar industry-standard financial data terminals.
- In-depth knowledge and analytical experience focusing on MENA region economies, particularly the GCC, and their respective financial markets.
- CFA designation or active progress towards its completion.
- Fluency in both written and spoken Arabic.
