Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced E-commerce Operations Manager to join our dynamic team in Tokyo. This pivotal role will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end operational aspects of our e-commerce platforms, ensuring seamless customer experiences, and driving operational efficiency. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with a strong grasp of logistics, supply chain management, inventory optimization, and customer service processes within an e-commerce context. You will lead a dedicated team, implement best practices, and collaborate cross-functionally with product, marketing, technology, and customer support teams to achieve our business objectives. This role is crucial in scaling our e-commerce presence and maintaining Rakuten’s reputation for excellence and innovation in the digital marketplace. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimize all aspects of e-commerce operations, including order fulfillment, inventory management, shipping, and returns.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of operations specialists, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide regular reports on operational performance to senior management.
  • Collaborate with supply chain, logistics, and warehouse partners to ensure timely and accurate product delivery.
  • Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks and implement scalable solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
  • Work closely with product and technology teams to implement new features and improve existing e-commerce functionalities.
  • Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts to secure favorable terms for operational services.
  • Drive continuous process improvement initiatives using data-driven insights and best practices.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in e-commerce operations management, preferably within a large-scale retail or online platform.
  • Proven track record of optimizing operational processes and improving efficiency.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with experience building and developing high-performing teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Proficiency with e-commerce platforms, order management systems (OMS), and warehouse management systems (WMS).
  • Exceptional communication skills in both English and Japanese (business level, written and spoken).
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree (MBA) or equivalent advanced qualification.
  • Experience working in a global e-commerce environment.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and project management tools.
  • Experience with enterprise-level e-commerce platforms like SAP Commerce Cloud, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, or similar.
  • Certification in Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies.
