Aero Surveys (Pvt) Ltd is actively seeking a highly skilled, certified, and experienced Drone Pilot with a dedicated specialization in agricultural survey and mapping to join our innovative and growing team in Harare. This pivotal role presents an unparalleled opportunity for a professional deeply passionate about leveraging advanced drone technology to revolutionize agricultural practices, enhance crop yields, and optimize land management strategies throughout Zimbabwe. The successful candidate will be instrumental in meticulously planning, expertly executing, and comprehensively managing drone-based data acquisition missions tailored for a diverse array of agricultural applications. These include critical tasks such as precise crop health monitoring, accurate yield estimation, efficient irrigation management, detailed soil analysis, and the implementation of cutting-edge precision farming initiatives. You will be responsible for operating and maintaining state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) platforms, equipped with advanced multispectral, hyperspectral, and high-resolution RGB sensors, ensuring the consistent collection of high-quality, geo-referenced spatial data. This demanding role mandates a robust understanding of stringent drone operation safety protocols, efficient data processing workflows, and foundational agricultural principles. If you are an autonomous, meticulously detail-oriented pilot with a demonstrable track record of success in agricultural remote sensing and a commitment to precision, we strongly encourage you to apply. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute drone flight missions for agricultural surveys, including route planning, airspace considerations, and risk assessment.
  • Operate and maintain various drone platforms and associated sensor payloads (RGB, multispectral, thermal, LiDAR).
  • Ensure strict adherence to aviation regulations, safety standards, and company operational procedures.
  • Process raw drone data using specialized photogrammetry and GIS software to generate orthomosaics, 3D models, digital elevation models (DEMs), and other geospatial products.
  • Conduct data quality control and assurance to ensure accuracy and reliability of collected information.
  • Interpret and analyze processed data to extract meaningful insights for agricultural applications (e.g., NDVI maps, plant health indices, yield predictions).
  • Collaborate with agronomists, project managers, and clients to understand specific data requirements and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of drone equipment.
  • Maintain accurate flight logs, equipment maintenance records, and project documentation.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in drone technology, sensors, and agricultural remote sensing techniques.
  • Train junior staff or clients on drone operation and data interpretation as needed.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a certified drone pilot (e.g., RPAS operator certificate) with a minimum of 3 years of agricultural drone operations experience.
  • Extensive experience in agricultural drone operations, survey, and mapping techniques.
  • Proficiency in operating various types of UAVs (fixed-wing and multirotor) and associated sensor payloads.
  • Strong understanding of aviation regulations and safe drone operation practices in Zimbabwe.
  • Expertise in photogrammetry software (e.g., Pix4D, Agisoft Metashape, DroneDeploy).
  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for data analysis and visualization.
  • Familiarity with agricultural principles, crop cycles, and common plant health issues.
  • Excellent data processing, analysis, and interpretation skills.
  • Ability to work independently in field environments and potentially challenging weather conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving and technical troubleshooting abilities for drone hardware and software.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively to various farm locations across Zimbabwe.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with diverse teams and clients.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geoinformatics, Surveying, Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with advanced sensors such as hyperspectral or LiDAR for agricultural applications.
  • Knowledge of precision agriculture techniques and farm management information systems.
  • Prior experience in client-facing roles or project management within a geospatial context.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages like Python or R for geospatial data analysis and automation.
