Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate company vehicles (vans, trucks, etc.) for the transportation of goods across designated routes in Lagos and surrounding areas.
- Proactively plan, optimize, and manage daily delivery routes using mapping tools and local knowledge to minimize travel time, fuel consumption, and maximize delivery efficiency, ensuring timely deliveries.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure they are in optimal working condition; promptly report any mechanical issues, damages, or maintenance needs.
- Accurately load and unload packages and parcels, ensuring proper handling, securing, and verification of goods to prevent damage during transit.
- Maintain precise and detailed delivery records, including manifests, delivery notes, and proof of delivery, utilizing company-provided digital tools and platforms.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with dispatch, customers, and internal teams regarding delivery status, potential delays, unforeseen issues, or customer inquiries.
- Adhere strictly to all national and local traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations at all times to ensure a safe working environment.
- Provide exceptional customer service during deliveries, representing GIG Logistics with professionalism, courtesy, and a solutions-oriented approach.
- Manage fuel consumption and ensure vehicles are refueled as required, maintaining accurate records of fuel usage.
- Assist with other operational tasks as needed to support overall logistics efficiency and team objectives.
Required Skills
- Valid Nigerian Driver's License (Class G preferred or equivalent for commercial vehicles)
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable professional driving experience in Lagos
- Excellent knowledge of Lagos road networks, traffic laws, and alternative routes
- Strong navigational skills and ability to use GPS devices and mapping applications effectively
- Proven ability to plan and optimize delivery routes for efficiency
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to read and write in English
- Physical fitness to load and unload packages and perform vehicle inspections
- High level of responsibility and punctuality
- Problem-solving skills and ability to make sound decisions under pressure
Preferred Qualifications
- SSCE/GCE or equivalent educational qualification
- Defensive driving certificate or other advanced driving training
- Previous experience working with a reputable logistics or courier company
- Familiarity with digital delivery management systems and handheld devices
- Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge
