Job Description

The ICRC is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Disaster Relief Worker to join our team in Maiduguri, Borno State. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing emergency assistance to vulnerable populations affected by conflict and natural disasters. This involves a wide range of activities, from needs assessments and distribution of relief supplies (food, water, shelter, medical supplies) to community engagement and capacity building. The role demands physical resilience, strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and a deep commitment to humanitarian principles. You will be working closely with a dedicated team of professionals in a challenging yet rewarding environment, contributing directly to improving the lives of those affected by crisis. The work often involves long hours, travel to remote areas, and exposure to challenging conditions, and requires a flexible and adaptable individual capable of working effectively under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting needs assessments in disaster-affected areas.
  • Developing and implementing relief programs.
  • Distributing food, water, shelter materials, and other essential supplies.
  • Providing psychosocial support to affected communities.
  • Collaborating with local partners and authorities.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of relief programs.
  • Maintaining accurate records and reports.
  • Ensuring compliance with ICRC operational procedures and security protocols.
  • Participating in emergency response operations.
  • Contributing to the development of contingency plans.

Required Skills

  • Fluency in English and Hausa (or another local language).

  • Previous experience in disaster relief or humanitarian aid.

  • Valid driver's license.
