Job Description
The Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) seeks a highly skilled and experienced Diplomat to join our team. The successful candidate will represent Nigeria’s interests abroad, fostering strong diplomatic relations with other countries and international organizations. This role demands excellent communication and negotiation skills, a thorough understanding of international law and protocols, and the ability to work independently and as part of a larger team. The Diplomat will participate in high-level negotiations, represent Nigeria at international conferences and forums, and prepare reports and policy recommendations for the government. The position involves extensive international travel and requires adaptability and resilience in navigating complex political and cultural landscapes. This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s foreign policy and international standing. The successful candidate will be expected to exhibit the highest levels of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to Nigeria’s national interests.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent Nigeria's interests in assigned diplomatic missions abroad.
- Negotiate and conclude international agreements and treaties.
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with foreign governments and international organizations.
- Prepare reports, policy recommendations, and analyses on international affairs.
- Participate in high-level meetings, conferences, and diplomatic events.
- Monitor and analyze political and economic developments in assigned countries.
- Manage diplomatic personnel and resources effectively.
- Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, both domestically and internationally.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills (written and verbal)
- Deep understanding of international law, diplomacy, and protocol
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Fluency in English and at least one other foreign language
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong interpersonal and cultural sensitivity skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in International Relations, Political Science, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a diplomatic or related role
- Experience working in a foreign country
- Knowledge of Nigerian foreign policy and international affairs
