Key Responsibilities
- Develop, create, and curate engaging content (text, image, video) for the Middelburg Observer’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, etc.).
- Schedule and publish social media posts using content management tools to ensure consistent online presence.
- Monitor social media trends, tools, and applications and apply that knowledge to current strategies.
- Engage with the online community by responding to comments, messages, and mentions in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist in the planning and execution of social media campaigns to promote news stories, events, and community initiatives.
- Track and analyse social media performance metrics, preparing reports on engagement, reach, and other key indicators.
- Collaborate with journalists and editors to transform traditional news articles into digital-first, shareable content.
- Assist with basic graphic design and video editing for social media posts.
- Maintain a consistent brand voice and visual identity across all digital platforms.
- Stay up-to-date with best practices in social media marketing and digital content creation.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (academic projects, internships, or professional) in social media management and content creation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (Afrikaans/isiZulu a plus).
- Proficiency with major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter).
- Basic graphic design skills using tools like Canva, Adobe Spark, or similar.
- Familiarity with social media scheduling and analytics tools.
- Strong understanding of current social media trends and algorithms.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
- A diploma or degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Digital Media, or a related field.
- Experience with video editing software (e.g., CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro).
