Are you a seasoned DevOps Engineer passionate about building scalable, resilient, and automated systems that power critical open-source infrastructure? Canonical is seeking a talented and experienced individual to join our dynamic engineering team in London. In this pivotal hybrid role, you will be instrumental in bridging the gap between development and operations, driving efficiency, and ensuring the stability and stellar performance of our diverse software products and services, including components of Ubuntu and our enterprise offerings. You will champion a culture of ‘infrastructure as code,’ continuous integration, and continuous delivery across various cloud environments and on-premise deployments, contributing to a seamless and robust operational framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines for automated software builds, testing, and deployments across multiple environments.
  • Manage and provision infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure high availability, scalability, and reliability of services.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools to streamline operational processes, reducing manual intervention.
  • Collaborate closely with development, QA, and security teams to integrate DevOps practices throughout the entire software development lifecycle.
  • Implement and manage containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
  • Ensure security best practices are integrated into all aspects of the infrastructure and deployment process, from design to operations.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to provide prompt support for critical systems and ensure service continuity (if applicable).
  • Document system architectures, configurations, processes, and operational procedures comprehensively.
  • Evaluate and introduce new tools, technologies, and methodologies to continuously improve efficiency, system performance, and developer experience.

Required Skills

  • 3+ years of professional experience in a DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or similar infrastructure role.
  • Strong proficiency with Linux operating systems, including administration and troubleshooting.
  • Extensive experience with major cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Demonstrable experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, Go) for automation.
  • Solid understanding and hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
  • Experience with containerization (Docker) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, Datadog).
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, distributed systems, and security best practices in cloud environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Cloud provider certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert).
  • Experience with serverless technologies and event-driven architectures.
  • Familiarity with open-source project contributions and community involvement.
  • Knowledge of configuration management tools like Chef or Puppet.
  • Experience working in a hybrid cloud or multi-cloud environment.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and lead technical initiatives with minimal supervision.
  • Understanding of database administration and optimization.
