Job Description
Montgomery Housing Partnership (MHP) is seeking an accomplished and passionate Development Director to lead our fundraising efforts and significantly expand our philanthropic support. This pivotal role is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that encompasses individual giving, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, government funding, and special events. As the Development Director, you will be instrumental in cultivating and stewarding relationships with current and prospective donors, ensuring a robust pipeline of financial support to advance MHP’s critical mission of providing affordable housing and supportive services. You will work closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and program teams to articulate MHP’s impact and inspire investment in our vision. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive annual fundraising plan to meet MHP’s budgetary goals.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
- Manage and grow MHP’s major gifts program, including prospect research, cultivation strategies, and personalized solicitation.
- Oversee the grant writing process, including research, proposal development, submission, and reporting for institutional funders.
- Plan and execute fundraising events, campaigns, and appeals to engage the community and increase donor participation.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors on fundraising initiatives and donor engagement strategies.
- Supervise and mentor development staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
- Maintain accurate donor records and utilize CRM software (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Salesforce) for donor management and reporting.
- Prepare regular reports on fundraising progress, donor trends, and budget adherence for leadership and the Board.
- Represent MHP at community events, networking functions, and stakeholder meetings to build visibility and relationships.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in non-profit fundraising, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated track record of successfully securing significant gifts from diverse funding sources (individuals, corporations, foundations, government).
- Proven ability to develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies and campaigns.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and proposals.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with donors, board members, and community partners.
- Proficiency in donor database management (CRM) software.
- Strategic thinking with a results-oriented approach.
- Leadership and team management capabilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Non-profit Management, Business Administration, Communications).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Non-profit Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation.
- Familiarity with the Montgomery County, MD philanthropic landscape and community leaders.
- Experience with capital campaigns or endowment fundraising.
- Knowledge of affordable housing issues and community development.
