Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including medical history reviews and detailed periodontal charting.
- Perform scaling, root planning, and polishing procedures to meticulously remove plaque, calculus, and stains.
- Administer local anaesthetics under prescription where appropriate and within the scope of practice.
- Apply topical fluoride treatments and fissure sealants effectively.
- Provide comprehensive oral hygiene instruction and education tailored to individual patient needs, including dietary advice and smoking cessation support.
- Take and process high-quality dental radiographs as required for diagnostic purposes.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential patient records in compliance with data protection regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with dentists and other dental professionals in treatment planning and patient care.
- Adhere strictly to GDC guidelines, CQC regulations, and practice policies regarding cross-infection control and patient safety.
- Keep abreast of the latest developments in dental hygiene practices and techniques through continuous professional development (CPD).
- Assist in maintaining a clean, organised, and well-stocked surgery environment.
Required Skills
- GDC registration as a Dental Hygienist
- A minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience in a dental practice setting
- Proven ability to build rapport and communicate effectively with a diverse patient base
- Excellent clinical skills in preventative and therapeutic dental hygiene procedures
- Strong understanding of periodontal disease and its management
- Proficient in dental charting and accurate record-keeping
- Up-to-date with all relevant CPD requirements
- BLS/First Aid certification
- Proficient with dental software (e.g., SOE Exact or similar)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with sedation techniques
- Post-registration qualifications or special interests in specific areas of dental hygiene
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary dental team
