As a Data Center Technician at T-Systems in Darmstadt, you will be a vital member of our operations team, ensuring the high availability, performance, and security of our state-of-the-art data center infrastructure. Your expertise will be critical in maintaining the physical components of our servers, network devices, and storage systems, playing a direct role in the seamless delivery of critical IT services to our diverse client base. Key Responsibilities
- Perform installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of server, network, and storage hardware.
- Execute physical cabling (copper and fiber optics) within the data center, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
- Monitor data center infrastructure (power, cooling, environmental conditions) and respond to alerts.
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance and hardware upgrades.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware failures and connectivity issues swiftly and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate inventory of all data center equipment and assets.
- Adhere strictly to operational procedures, security policies, and health & safety regulations.
- Collaborate with other IT teams (network, server, virtualization) to resolve complex issues.
- Document all work performed, changes made, and incidents resolved.
- Participate in on-call rotation and emergency response as required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in data center operations or an equivalent IT infrastructure role.
- Solid understanding of server hardware (e.g., Dell, HP, IBM) and components.
- Basic knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, Ethernet, cabling standards).
- Familiarity with various operating systems (Linux, Windows Server).
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and connectivity issues.
- Proficiency in spoken and written German and English.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 20kg).
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training or a degree in IT, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Server+ or CCNA.
- Experience with DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) tools.
- Knowledge of power distribution units (PDUs) and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).
- Familiarity with ITIL best practices.
- Experience in a large-scale enterprise data center environment.
