Job Description
Kentucky State University is seeking a dedicated and reliable Full-Time Custodian to join our essential facilities team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall appearance of our campus buildings, including classrooms, offices, laboratories, residence halls, and common areas. This position is critical to ensuring a healthy, safe, and productive environment for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and polishing surfaces in assigned areas.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including sinks, toilets, floors, and restocking supplies.
- Empty trash receptacles and transport waste to designated disposal areas.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using appropriate cleaning solutions.
- Operate and maintain various cleaning equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, and vacuum cleaners.
- Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and notify supervisors when supplies need to be replenished.
- Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or needed repairs to appropriate personnel promptly.
- Assist with setting up and breaking down rooms for special events, meetings, and conferences.
- Respond to emergency cleaning needs, such as spills or unexpected messes.
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines for the use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor while interacting with campus community members.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their safe usage.
- Ability to operate standard cleaning equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaners, mops, brooms).
- Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, stoop, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience (1+ year) in custodial or janitorial services, preferably in an institutional or educational setting.
