Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Curriculum Developer to join our dedicated team at Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Center in Jos. This crucial role involves designing, developing, and implementing innovative educational curricula and training modules specifically tailored for individuals with various disabilities, including physical, sensory, and learning impairments. The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping the learning experiences of our beneficiaries, ensuring that our programs are engaging, accessible, and aligned with best practices in special education and vocational training. You will collaborate closely with educators, rehabilitation specialists, and community leaders to identify learning needs, establish clear learning objectives, and create instructional content that promotes holistic development and vocational readiness. This position demands a blend of pedagogical expertise, creativity, and a deep understanding of adaptive learning strategies. Your work will directly impact our ability to empower handicapped individuals, fostering their independence and integration into society. We are looking for someone who is passionate about inclusive education and committed to continuous improvement in curriculum design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop comprehensive curricula and instructional materials for diverse educational and vocational programs, considering the specific needs of individuals with disabilities.
  • Conduct thorough needs assessments and research to identify skill gaps and educational requirements relevant to our beneficiaries and local employment opportunities.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, teachers, and rehabilitation therapists to ensure curriculum content is accurate, up-to-date, and pedagogically sound.
  • Integrate adaptive technologies and universal design principles into all curriculum development processes to ensure accessibility for all learners.
  • Develop assessment tools and methods to evaluate learning outcomes and program effectiveness, making data-driven recommendations for revisions.
  • Review, revise, and update existing curricula to incorporate feedback, new educational trends, and changes in policy or industry standards.
  • Provide training and support to instructors and staff on the effective delivery and implementation of developed curricula.
  • Maintain organized records of all curriculum documents, resources, and development processes.
  • Contribute to grant writing and project proposals related to educational program development.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in curriculum development or instructional design, preferably within special education or vocational training.
  • Strong understanding of pedagogical principles, learning theories, and assessment strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) or e-learning tools.
  • Ability to conduct thorough research and synthesize information from various sources.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for working with individuals with disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Education, Special Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field.
  • Experience working directly with individuals with disabilities or in a non-profit/NGO setting.
  • Knowledge of Nigerian educational standards and vocational training frameworks.
  • Familiarity with sign language, Braille, or other adaptive communication methods.
