Voi Wildlife Lodge is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Part-Time Cook – Kitchen Assistant to join our esteemed culinary department. Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Chef and other culinary staff in all aspects of daily food preparation and cooking.
- Prepare ingredients by washing, chopping, slicing, and dicing vegetables, meats, and other components as required.
- Perform basic cooking tasks such as grilling, frying, sautéing, and boiling under supervision, adhering to recipes and quality standards.
- Ensure all kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces are cleaned and sanitized regularly, adhering strictly to hygiene standards and food safety regulations.
- Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating food supplies, ensuring proper inventory management, stock rotation (FIFO), and minimal waste.
- Monitor food freshness and quality, reporting any issues or discrepancies to the senior kitchen staff immediately.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment, communicating effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
- Follow all safety and health regulations, including HACCP guidelines, to maintain a safe and compliant working environment.
- Support dishwashing and general kitchen cleanliness duties during busy periods to ensure a continuous flow of operations.
- Learn and adapt to new recipes and cooking techniques as guided by the culinary team, demonstrating a willingness to grow.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times while on duty.
Required Skills
- Proven basic cooking skills and foundational knowledge of kitchen operations.
- Understanding of food hygiene and safety principles (e.g., HACCP or similar standards).
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on teamwork.
