Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Consultant Surgeon to join our dynamic surgical team within Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management for patients requiring surgical intervention.
- Perform a wide range of complex surgical procedures with proficiency and adherence to best practice guidelines.
- Lead and participate in regular outpatient clinics, ward rounds, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Contribute to the on-call rota, providing emergency surgical cover as required.
- Supervise, mentor, and provide education to junior medical staff, including registrars, residents, and medical students.
- Engage in clinical audit, research, and service development initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and improve surgical practice.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records in accordance with Trust policies and professional standards.
- Participate in governance activities, including incident reporting, risk management, and clinical effectiveness programs.
Required Skills
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practice.
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register (or within six months of obtaining CCT/CESR) in a relevant surgical specialty.
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) or equivalent.
- Extensive experience in a broad range of surgical procedures and patient management.
- Demonstrable leadership skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-centred approach.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Higher degree (e.g., MD, PhD) in a relevant medical or surgical field.
- Experience in clinical teaching and supervision of junior medical staff.
- Evidence of active participation in research and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Sub-specialty interest and fellowship training relevant to the department's needs.
