Key Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise daily construction activities on-site, ensuring adherence to project schedules and budgets.
- Implement and enforce strict compliance with all project plans, specifications, building codes, and safety regulations.
- Manage, coordinate, and motivate construction workers, subcontractors, and equipment operators.
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, evaluate work quality, and promptly identify and resolve any potential issues or deviations.
- Oversee the proper storage, inventory, and timely delivery of construction materials and equipment.
- Prepare comprehensive daily and weekly progress reports, including labor, material, and equipment usage, and communicate updates to project management.
- Proactively identify and solve on-site problems, making informed decisions to maintain project momentum and avoid delays.
- Train, mentor, and supervise junior site staff, promoting professional growth and skill development.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and security of all tools, machinery, and equipment on the construction site.
- Foster a positive and productive working environment, promoting teamwork and effective communication among all site personnel.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a Construction Supervisor, Foreman, or a similar leadership role in construction.
- Strong, in-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, equipment, and industry best practices.
- Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and direct a diverse workforce.
- Proficiency in reading, interpreting, and working with blueprints, schematics, and various construction drawings.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a decisive approach to on-site challenges.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, crucial for reporting and stakeholder interaction.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet stringent deadlines.
- Solid understanding and practical application of occupational health and safety standards (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH, or local equivalents).
- Basic computer literacy for report generation and communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Building Technology, or a closely related field.
- Relevant professional certifications or licenses (e.g., from COREN, NSE, or other recognized professional bodies in Nigeria).
- Specialized experience in commercial, residential, or infrastructure construction projects.
- In-depth knowledge of local building codes, regulations, and permit processes in Lagos State.
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera P6).
