Key Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, and feeding.
- Monitor and record residents' vital signs, intake/output, and report any changes in condition promptly to nursing staff.
- Administer prescribed medication under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, adhering strictly to protocols.
- Provide emotional support, companionship, and engage residents in stimulating activities to promote mental and social well-being.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents, ensuring hygiene standards are consistently met.
- Assist with meal preparation and serving, ensuring dietary requirements are observed, and encourage adequate nutrition.
- Document care provided accurately and timely in residents' care plans and daily logbooks.
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with residents, their families, and multidisciplinary team members.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Care Assistant or similar role, preferably in an old age home setting.
- Strong understanding of elderly care principles and the unique needs of senior residents.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and empathetic approach.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and assisting with mobility.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic first aid knowledge and CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- FET Certificate in Ancillary Health Care (NQF Level 1) or equivalent.
- Further training or certification in palliative care or dementia care.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Driver's license and own reliable transport.
