Key Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.
- Support residents with meal preparation and feeding, ensuring dietary requirements and preferences are met.
- Monitor and record vital signs, observe residents for changes in condition, and report any concerns promptly to nursing staff.
- Administer prescribed medications under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, adhering strictly to protocols.
- Engage residents in meaningful social, recreational, and therapeutic activities to promote mental and physical well-being.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized living environment for residents, including tidying rooms and making beds.
- Provide emotional support and companionship, fostering a sense of belonging and community.
- Assist with laundry and personal hygiene tasks as needed.
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with residents, their families, and the care team.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, infection control policies, and facility procedures.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Care Assistant or similar role, preferably in an old age home setting.
- Strong understanding of elder care principles and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and empathetic demeanor.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and highly responsible.
- Physical stamina and ability to assist residents with mobility and lifting, as required.
- Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency procedures.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and respecting resident privacy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal qualification in Home Based Care, Auxiliary Nursing, or a related field (e.g., NQF Level 3/4).
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR.
- Experience with dementia care and managing challenging behaviours.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills for documentation.
- A valid driver's license.
