Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of community engagement events, workshops, and outreach activities.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with community members, local organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Support the creation of engaging communication materials, including flyers, social media content, and newsletters, to promote initiatives.
  • Gather and organize feedback from community members to help inform program development and improvements.
  • Assist with data collection and reporting on engagement activities and their impact.
  • Attend community meetings and forums to represent the organization and identify collaboration opportunities.
  • Provide administrative support to the community engagement team, including scheduling, record-keeping, and general office tasks.
  • Act as a friendly and knowledgeable point of contact for community inquiries and provide accurate information.

Required Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse groups.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated passion for community development and social impact.
  • Proactive attitude with strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Adaptability and resilience in dynamic community environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A relevant diploma or degree in Communications, Social Sciences, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field (or currently pursuing).
  • Previous volunteer experience in community outreach or event support.
  • Familiarity with the East London, Eastern Cape community and its dynamics.
  • Ability to communicate in isiXhosa or Afrikaans (advantageous but not required).
  • Experience with social media platforms for community outreach.
