Job Description
Mountaire Farms is seeking a dedicated and experienced Commercial Driver (Local) to join our transportation team in Selbyville, Delaware. This crucial role is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of our fresh poultry products to various local destinations, including distribution centers, warehouses, and customer sites. As a Local Commercial Driver, you will primarily operate within a defined regional area, ensuring compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies. This is a full-time position offering consistent work schedules, competitive compensation, and comprehensive benefits. Key Responsibilities
- Operate commercial vehicles (primarily tractor-trailers) safely and efficiently on local routes.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers in accordance with DOT regulations and company policy.
- Load and unload freight as required, ensuring proper handling and securement of products.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery receipts, and all required documentation.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, warehouse personnel, and customers.
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local traffic laws and company safety policies.
- Ensure timely delivery of products while maintaining product integrity, especially temperature-sensitive goods.
- Report any vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage immediately.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A)
- Clean driving record (MVR) with no major infractions in the past 3-5 years
- Current DOT medical card
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations (Hours of Service, vehicle inspection, etc.)
- Physical ability to lift, push, pull, and maneuver freight weighing up to 50 pounds
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and punctuality
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of verifiable commercial driving experience
- Experience with refrigerated trailers (reefers)
- Familiarity with local Selbyville, Delaware, and surrounding regional routes
- High School Diploma or GED
