Job Description

Are you a meticulous and proactive professional with a passion for logistics and international trade? INTELS Nigeria Limited is seeking a dedicated and experienced Clearing and Forwarding Agent to join our dynamic team in Brass, Bayelsa. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient movement of goods through customs and port authorities, managing all documentation, and strictly complying with local and international trade regulations. This position demands a keen eye for detail, exceptional organizational skills, and a thorough understanding of customs procedures, tariffs, and shipping processes. You will act as the primary liaison between clients, shipping lines, port authorities, and customs officials, facilitating timely clearance and delivery of cargo primarily for the oil and gas sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process all necessary documentation for customs clearance, including bills of lading, manifests, invoices, and packing lists.
  • Liaise effectively with customs officials, port authorities, shipping lines, and airlines to ensure timely clearance and delivery of cargo.
  • Monitor and track shipments, providing regular updates to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Calculate and process duties, taxes, and other applicable fees in accordance with current regulations.
  • Advise clients on import/export regulations, tariffs, customs procedures, and documentation requirements.
  • Resolve any issues or discrepancies that arise during the clearing and forwarding process, such as customs queries or delays.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant local and international trade laws and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records and a comprehensive database of all transactions and communications.
  • Coordinate with transport providers for the efficient onward delivery of cleared goods.
  • Stay updated on changes in customs laws, trade agreements, and shipping regulations through continuous learning.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Clearing and Forwarding Agent or similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of Nigerian Customs procedures, tariffs, and trade regulations.
  • Strong understanding of shipping documentation (Bill of Lading, Air Waybill, Form M, PAAR, e-Manifest, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certification in Customs Brokerage or a similar professional qualification.
  • Experience with logistics software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Familiarity with the oil and gas industry's specific logistics requirements and compliance standards.
  • Fluency in local languages relevant to Bayelsa State is an advantage.
