Job Description

GraceKennedy Limited is seeking a dedicated and experienced Cleaner/Janitorial Supervisor to lead our cleaning team and ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene across our facilities in Kingston. This pivotal role requires an individual who is not only meticulous in their approach to cleanliness but also possesses strong leadership skills to motivate, train, and manage a team of janitorial staff effectively. As a Janitorial Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing daily cleaning operations, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, managing inventory of cleaning supplies, and implementing efficient cleaning schedules to maintain a pristine environment. You will be instrumental in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and sanitary environment for all employees, visitors, and customers, reflecting GraceKennedy’s unwavering commitment to quality and professionalism. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in a supervisory capacity within a corporate facilities management or similar environment, demonstrating exceptional organizational skills, proactive problem-solving abilities, and a keen eye for detail. Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and schedule a team of janitorial staff, ensuring high performance, adherence to company standards, and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to ensure cleanliness standards are consistently met and maintained across all areas including offices, restrooms, common areas, and specialized zones.
  • Develop, implement, and optimize efficient cleaning routines and daily/weekly/monthly work schedules for the team.
  • Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, including ordering, proper storage, maintenance, and allocation to minimize waste.
  • Ensure all cleaning activities strictly comply with local health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Safely operate and maintain a variety of cleaning equipment, performing minor repairs and arranging for professional servicing when necessary.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for team members, providing constructive feedback, coaching, and identifying training needs.
  • Promptly address and resolve any cleaning-related issues, complaints, or special requests from staff or management professionally.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on cleaning activities, supply consumption, staff attendance, and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments and external contractors to coordinate specialized cleaning efforts or for special events/projects.
  • Promote a culture of safety, ensuring proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Identify and recommend improvements in cleaning methods, materials, and equipment to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in janitorial services, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role managing a cleaning team.
  • Strong leadership, motivational, and team management abilities with a focus on staff development.
  • In-depth knowledge of various cleaning methods, products, chemicals, and equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Thorough familiarity with local health, safety, and hygiene regulations and best practices.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Exceptional organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and a steadfast commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
  • Basic computer literacy for record-keeping, reporting, and inventory management (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; additional certification in facilities management, sanitation, or a related field is a distinct advantage.
  • Previous experience supervising janitorial staff in a large corporate, industrial, or multi-site facility.
  • Knowledge of sustainable cleaning practices, environmentally friendly products, and waste management principles.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification.
