Arup is seeking a passionate and driven Civil Structural Engineer to join our innovative team in London. In this role, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of structural design, from initial concept development and feasibility studies through to detailed design, analysis, and construction support. Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis and design for a variety of building and infrastructure projects using relevant industry standards and software.
- Prepare comprehensive design calculations, reports, specifications, and drawings for structural elements in concrete, steel, timber, and masonry.
- Collaborate effectively with architects, clients, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to integrate structural solutions into overall project designs.
- Conduct site visits, inspections, and surveys to assess existing conditions, monitor construction progress, and provide technical support during the build phase.
- Contribute to project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure timely and within-budget project delivery.
- Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering their development and reviewing their work for accuracy and compliance.
- Stay abreast of the latest industry trends, technologies, and regulations, applying best practices to all projects.
- Ensure all designs adhere strictly to British Standards, Eurocodes, and relevant building regulations.
- Participate in internal and external project reviews, offering technical insights and innovative solutions.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience in structural design and analysis within a consultancy environment.
- Working towards or already achieved Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE).
- Demonstrable proficiency in structural design software such as ETABS, SAP2000, Tekla Structural Designer, or Robot Structural Analysis.
- Strong understanding of structural mechanics and design principles for concrete, steel, masonry, and timber structures.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex technical information clearly.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, managing multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Thorough knowledge of British Standards, Eurocodes, and UK building regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Building Information Modelling (BIM) software, particularly Revit Structure.
- Familiarity with sustainable design principles and low-carbon materials in structural engineering.
- Experience in complex seismic design or advanced structural dynamics.
- Project management experience or leadership roles on engineering projects.
- Postgraduate qualifications (e.g., PhD) in a relevant specialist area.
- Experience with facade engineering or specialist structures.
