Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake civil engineering design for a variety of projects including highways, drainage, earthworks, and structural foundations.
  • Prepare detailed engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and drawings using industry-standard software.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, clients, contractors, and local authorities to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Conduct site investigations, surveys, and inspections to assess conditions and monitor construction progress.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant UK standards, regulations (e.g., Eurocodes, DMRB, Sewers for Adoption), and health & safety guidelines.
  • Manage project tasks efficiently, adhering to budgets and deadlines.
  • Contribute to the preparation of tender documentation and assist in bid evaluations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
  • Identify and implement innovative engineering solutions to complex challenges.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience in civil engineering design within a consultancy or contractor environment.
  • Proficiency in civil engineering design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroDrainage (WinDes), or similar.
  • Strong understanding of UK design standards, codes of practice, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrable experience in the design of highways, drainage systems, and earthworks.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related specialism.
  • Working towards or already achieved Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or similar professional body.
  • Experience with BIM (Building Information Modelling) processes and software.
  • Project management certification or proven experience in managing small to medium-sized projects.
  • Experience in flood risk management or coastal engineering projects.
