Job Description

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young children? Little Saints Pre-School Magalieskruin is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Childcare Worker to join our compassionate team. As a Childcare Worker, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality care, supervision, and educational activities for children aged 2-5 years. This position requires an individual who is nurturing, patient, energetic, and committed to creating a safe and engaging learning environment. You will be responsible for implementing daily programs, fostering children’s social and cognitive development, and maintaining clear communication with parents and colleagues. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision and care for children, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate educational activities, games, and creative play opportunities.
  • Assist children with daily routines, including meals, snacks, nap times, and toileting/hygiene.
  • Observe and document children’s behaviour, progress, and development, reporting any concerns to the lead teacher or principal.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe learning environment, ensuring all materials and equipment are well-maintained.
  • Foster positive social interactions among children and help resolve conflicts constructively.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with parents regarding their child's daily activities and progress.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to create a cohesive and supportive team environment.
  • Administer basic first aid when necessary and follow all emergency procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development workshops as required to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Adhere to all school policies and procedures, as well as relevant childcare regulations.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of proven experience working in a childcare setting or similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of child development stages and age-appropriate learning techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with young children.
  • Ability to manage groups of children effectively and ensure their safety.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain immediately upon hire).
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
  • Reliable, responsible, and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Clear criminal record and valid background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NQF Level 4 in Early Childhood Development (ECD) or a relevant qualification.
  • Experience with play-based learning methodologies and curriculum implementation.
  • Knowledge of local childcare regulations and safety standards in Gauteng.
  • Additional language proficiency (e.g., Afrikaans, Sepedi, Setswana) is a significant advantage.
  • Previous experience in a pre-primary school or nursery school setting.
  • Basic computer literacy for administrative tasks and communication.
