As a Childcare Worker, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality care, supervision, and educational activities for children aged 2-5 years. Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision and care for children, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Plan and implement age-appropriate educational activities, games, and creative play opportunities.
- Assist children with daily routines, including meals, snacks, nap times, and toileting/hygiene.
- Observe and document children’s behaviour, progress, and development, reporting any concerns to the lead teacher or principal.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe learning environment, ensuring all materials and equipment are well-maintained.
- Foster positive social interactions among children and help resolve conflicts constructively.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with parents regarding their child's daily activities and progress.
- Collaborate with other staff members to create a cohesive and supportive team environment.
- Administer basic first aid when necessary and follow all emergency procedures.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development workshops as required to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Adhere to all school policies and procedures, as well as relevant childcare regulations.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 1 year of proven experience working in a childcare setting or similar environment.
- Strong understanding of child development stages and age-appropriate learning techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with young children.
- Ability to manage groups of children effectively and ensure their safety.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain immediately upon hire).
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Reliable, responsible, and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Clear criminal record and valid background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- NQF Level 4 in Early Childhood Development (ECD) or a relevant qualification.
- Experience with play-based learning methodologies and curriculum implementation.
- Knowledge of local childcare regulations and safety standards in Gauteng.
- Additional language proficiency (e.g., Afrikaans, Sepedi, Setswana) is a significant advantage.
- Previous experience in a pre-primary school or nursery school setting.
- Basic computer literacy for administrative tasks and communication.
