Job Description

Are you a visionary financial leader with a passion for disruptive technology and a track record of guiding high-growth ventures? Wema Bank Plc is seeking an exceptional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to spearhead the financial strategy and operations of an exciting new tech startup within our innovative ecosystem. This pivotal role is not just about numbers; it’s about being a strategic co-pilot, driving growth, securing investment, and building a robust financial infrastructure from the ground up for a venture poised to redefine its market.

As our CFO, you will be the architect of financial health, responsible for all aspects of financial management, including planning, reporting, analysis, and capital allocation. You will work closely with the CEO and the executive team to shape the company’s strategic direction, identify opportunities for expansion, and mitigate financial risks. This is a unique opportunity to blend the agility and dynamism of a tech startup with the stability and resources of a leading financial institution. You will be instrumental in fundraising efforts, navigating complex financial landscapes, and ensuring compliance, all while fostering a culture of financial discipline and transparency. We are looking for a hands-on leader who can not only craft high-level financial strategies but also dive into the operational details, building scalable processes and systems that support rapid growth. If you are an experienced financial professional with an entrepreneurial spirit, ready to make a significant impact on a groundbreaking tech venture, we invite you to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the overall financial strategy of the tech startup, aligning with Wema Bank's strategic objectives.
  • Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, and internal controls.
  • Lead fundraising initiatives, investor relations, and capital allocation strategies to fuel growth and innovation.
  • Provide strategic financial guidance to the CEO and executive team on business development, M&A, and expansion opportunities.
  • Manage financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, compliance with IFRS/GAAP, and timely delivery to stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain robust financial models for business planning, valuation, and performance analysis.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks, implement risk management frameworks, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Drive efficiency and scalability in financial processes and systems, leveraging technology as appropriate.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a CFO or VP of Finance, preferably within a tech startup or high-growth environment (minimum 10 years).
  • Strong understanding of startup finance, fundraising, venture capital, and private equity processes.
  • Expertise in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
  • Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and decision-making abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS/GAAP) and financial regulations.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration (MBA), or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as ACCA, ICAN, CFA, or CPA.
  • Experience with fintech or other specific tech sectors relevant to Wema Bank's innovation focus.
  • Prior experience successfully scaling a company from seed to Series B or beyond.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and optimizing financial technology stacks.

Perks & Benefits

  • Competitive salary and performance-based incentives.
  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits package.
  • Opportunities for professional development and continuous learning.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge technology and innovation within the fintech sector.
