Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Chemical Engineer to join our dynamic team at the alumina refinery in Clarendon Parish, Jamaica. The successful candidate will play a critical role in optimizing plant operations, ensuring process efficiency, and contributing to the continuous improvement of our bauxite refining processes. This position demands a strong understanding of chemical engineering principles, a meticulous approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to safety and environmental compliance within a heavy industrial setting. You will be instrumental in analyzing process data, identifying opportunities for enhancement, and implementing solutions that drive productivity and reduce operational costs. This is an on-site role requiring a hands-on approach to managing complex chemical processes in a large-scale industrial facility. You will collaborate closely with various departments, including production, maintenance, and environmental health & safety, to uphold our stringent operational standards and contribute to our strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, analyze, and optimize key refinery processes to improve efficiency, yield, and product quality.
- Troubleshoot operational issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Develop and implement process improvements, cost reduction initiatives, and energy conservation strategies.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety, health, environmental, and quality regulations and standards.
- Conduct process simulations, P&ID reviews, and mass/energy balances to support process design and modifications.
- Provide technical support and guidance to production and maintenance teams.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, operational procedures, and project documentation.
- Participate in HAZOP studies, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Assist in the commissioning of new equipment and process units.
- Stay abreast of industry best practices and emerging technologies in alumina refining.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a heavy industrial setting, preferably an alumina refinery or similar chemical processing plant.
- Strong understanding of chemical engineering principles, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer.
- Proficiency in process data analysis and interpretation.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and environmental best practices.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
- Experience with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, PRO/II).
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 standards.
- Project management experience.
- Certification in Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
