Key Responsibilities
- Process customer purchases accurately and efficiently using point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- Handle cash, credit/debit card transactions, and mobile money payments, ensuring correct change and transaction records.
- Greet customers warmly, provide excellent customer service, and address inquiries or concerns politely.
- Maintain a clean and organized checkout area, including shelves near the register.
- Assist with bagging groceries and help customers with their purchases as needed.
- Monitor checkout queues and call for assistance when necessary to minimize customer wait times.
- Assist in stocking shelves and maintaining product displays during slower periods.
- Adhere strictly to all company policies and procedures, including those related to cash handling and security.
- Report any discrepancies, system issues, or customer feedback to the store supervisor.
- Promote special offers, loyalty programs, and store promotions to customers.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a cashier or in a customer service role, preferably in a retail or supermarket setting (minimum 6 months).
- Excellent numerical skills and attention to detail for accurate transaction processing.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
- High level of integrity, trustworthiness, and professionalism.
- Basic computer literacy and ability to learn new POS systems quickly.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- A diploma or certificate in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Accounting, Customer Service).
- Familiarity with supermarket operations and inventory procedures.
- Ability to speak Kinyarwanda and English fluently; knowledge of French is a plus.
- Previous experience with modern POS software.
