Key Responsibilities
- Assist residents with daily living activities (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene, maintaining their dignity at all times.
- Support residents with mobility and transfers, utilizing appropriate equipment and techniques safely and effectively.
- Help with meal preparation, serving, and feeding, ensuring dietary needs and preferences are met and encouraging adequate hydration.
- Remind residents to take medications as per care plans and document observations related to medication adherence.
- Engage residents in stimulating social, recreational, and therapeutic activities to promote mental and physical well-being.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment for residents, adhering to all hygiene protocols.
- Monitor and accurately report any changes in residents' physical condition, mental state, or behavior to the nursing staff promptly.
- Document care provided, vital signs, and resident observations accurately and in a timely manner.
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with residents, their families, and other care team members.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, company policies, and ethical standards of care.
- Provide emotional support and companionship, fostering a sense of belonging and well-being for residents.
Required Skills
- Exceptional empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for elder care
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (Kinyarwanda and English)
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a valued team member
- High level of reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic
- Basic first aid knowledge and certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Physical stamina and ability to assist residents with mobility and transfers
- Understanding and respect for resident confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate in Geriatric Care, Nursing Assistant (CNA), or a related healthcare field
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working in an old age home, nursing home, or similar care setting
- Familiarity with local health and safety standards and regulations in Rwanda
- Ability to speak French is considered an advantageous skill
