Are you an experienced, customer-focused driver with a passion for South African heritage and tourism? The Royal Hotel Pilgrim’s Rest is seeking a dedicated and professional Bus Driver to operate our tourist shuttle services. This pivotal role involves safely transporting hotel guests on various routes, including airport transfers, local excursions to historical sites, scenic viewpoints, and other points of interest around Pilgrim’s Rest and the Panorama Route. You will be the face of our establishment on the road, providing not just transportation, but also an informative and enjoyable experience for our guests. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and punctually transport hotel guests to and from designated locations, including airports, local attractions, and pre-scheduled tours.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, ensuring it is in excellent working condition, meticulously clean, and well-maintained.
- Adhere strictly to all national and local traffic laws, road safety regulations, and company policies to ensure the utmost safety of passengers.
- Provide a friendly, professional, and informative service to all passengers, engaging them with insights and answering questions about the area and points of interest.
- Assist guests with the safe loading and unloading of luggage and ensure their comfort throughout the journey.
- Maintain accurate trip logs, including mileage, fuel consumption, passenger counts, and any incidents encountered.
- Report any mechanical issues, accidents, or incidents promptly and comprehensively to management.
- Handle unexpected situations on the road, such as minor vehicle issues or route changes, with calm, professionalism, and resourcefulness.
- Ensure the security and safety of passengers and their belongings at all times, including monitoring the vehicle while parked.
- Represent The Royal Hotel Pilgrim's Rest with the highest standards of professionalism, hospitality, and integrity.
Required Skills
- Valid South African Code 10 (EC) Driver's License.
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) for passenger transport.
- Minimum 3 years (36 months) of proven professional bus or large vehicle driving experience, preferably in a tourism or passenger transport environment.
- Excellent knowledge of road safety regulations and defensive driving techniques.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills, with a polite and approachable demeanor.
- Familiarity with the Pilgrim's Rest area and the broader Mpumalanga Panorama Route, including major attractions and routes.
- Ability to perform basic vehicle checks and maintenance tasks (e.g., checking oil, water, tire pressure).
- Exceptional punctuality, reliability, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Fluent in English (verbal communication for guest interaction).
Preferred Qualifications
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Advanced driving course certification.
- Proficiency in additional South African official languages (e.g., Afrikaans, Sepedi, IsiZulu).
- Previous experience working in a hotel or hospitality environment.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for roadside troubleshooting.
