As a Bus Driver, you will play a crucial role in the daily lives of our students, providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation to and from school, as well as for various extracurricular activities and field trips. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a school bus on designated routes and schedules, ensuring timely arrival and departure for students.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, reporting any mechanical issues or defects immediately.
- Maintain discipline and enforce safety rules among students while on the bus, ensuring a positive and respectful environment.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, school transportation policies, and state and federal regulations.
- Assist students with special needs, including proper use of ramps, lifts, and securement devices, as required.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and the transportation department regarding schedules, delays, or student behavior.
- Keep accurate records of mileage, passenger counts, and fuel consumption.
- Participate in mandatory safety meetings and ongoing training sessions.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the bus, both interior and exterior.
- Respond to emergencies or accidents in accordance with established procedures, prioritizing student safety.
Required Skills
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
- Clean driving record with no major violations.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical examination and drug/alcohol screening.
- Strong understanding and adherence to traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly with children.
- Ability to manage student behavior effectively.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Physical ability to perform pre-trip inspections, assist passengers, and operate bus controls.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a bus driver, especially in a school setting.
- Knowledge of Kokomo area roads and school locations.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Experience with diverse student populations.
- Mechanical aptitude for minor vehicle troubleshooting.
