Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all daily construction activities on site, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to schedules.
  • Manage, motivate, and mentor a diverse team of skilled and unskilled workers, assigning tasks effectively and monitoring individual and team performance.
  • Ensure strict adherence to construction plans, specifications, drawings, and established quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Implement and rigorously enforce all health, safety, and environmental regulations and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Monitor project progress against the master schedule, proactively identify potential delays or issues, and implement swift corrective actions.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure full compliance with local building codes, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Coordinate seamlessly with subcontractors, material suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of resources and services.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed daily site logs, progress reports, material usage records, and attendance sheets.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, architectural drawings, and technical specifications, providing clear and concise guidance to the on-site team.
  • Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and security of all on-site equipment, machinery, and tools.
  • Conduct regular toolbox talks and safety briefings to reinforce safety awareness and best practices among all personnel.
  • Provide consistent and transparent updates to the Project Manager or Site Manager on project status, challenges, and achievements.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 5 years) as a Building Foreman or in a similar construction supervisory role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction methods, materials, equipment, and relevant safety regulations (e.g., COREN guidelines).
  • Exceptional leadership, team management, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, architectural drawings, and technical specifications accurately.
  • Demonstrated ability in project scheduling, resource allocation, and budget monitoring.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and effective decision-making skills, especially under pressure.
  • Unwavering commitment to maintaining high standards of quality, craftsmanship, and site safety.
  • Physically fit and capable of working in various weather conditions and demanding construction site environments.
  • Basic computer literacy for report generation, email communication, and data entry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher National Diploma (HND) or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Civil Engineering, Building Technology, or a closely related field.
  • Certification in construction safety (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH, or local equivalents).
  • Experience with diverse types of construction projects, including residential, commercial, and public infrastructure.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Proficiency in local languages, particularly Yoruba, is a significant advantage for effective team communication.
