Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Brewer to join our passionate production team at Indeed Brewing Company in Northeast, Minneapolis. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a strong foundation in brewing science and a commitment to quality to contribute to our award-winning portfolio. The Brewer will be instrumental in the day-to-day operations of our brewhouse, cellar, and packaging lines, ensuring that every drop of beer meets our exacting standards. You will work closely with our Head Brewer and fellow team members, taking ownership of various stages of the brewing process, from raw material handling to fermentation management and finishing. Key Responsibilities
- Execute all phases of the brewing process, including milling, mashing, lautering, boiling, and whirlpooling, following established recipes and procedures.
- Manage fermentation, including yeast pitching, gravity monitoring, temperature control, and dry hopping.
- Perform cellar operations such as transferring beer, carbonation, filtration, and conditioning.
- Operate and maintain packaging equipment, including keg fillers, canning lines, and bottling lines, ensuring efficient and high-quality packaging.
- Conduct comprehensive cleaning and sanitation of tanks, brewhouse equipment, lines, and general brewery areas.
- Monitor inventory of raw materials and finished goods, assisting with ordering and receiving as needed.
- Perform routine quality control checks, including sensory evaluation, pH measurements, and cell counts.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform basic preventative maintenance.
- Maintain accurate and detailed brewing and production records.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and contribute to a safe working environment.
- Participate in new beer development and special projects as required.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of professional brewing experience in a production brewery setting.
- Strong understanding of brewing science, yeast biology, and fermentation principles.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining brewhouse and cellar equipment.
- Knowledge of CIP/SIP procedures and best practices for brewery sanitation.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 55 lbs) repeatedly and stand for extended periods.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality beer.
- Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to follow recipes and standard operating procedures accurately.
- Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and inventory management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal brewing education or certification (e.g., Siebel, IBD).
- Experience with packaging equipment, specifically canning lines.
- Forklift certification and experience.
- Knowledge of sensory evaluation techniques and off-flavor identification.
- Experience with brewery management software (e.g., Ekos, OrchestratedBeer).
- Mechanical or electrical troubleshooting experience.
