Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Boilermaker to join our robust team in Barkly West, Northern Cape. This Hybrid role offers a dynamic blend of workshop-based fabrication and precision on-site installation, maintenance, and repair activities across various project locations within the Northern Cape. As a Boilermaker at Boipelo Mining Contractors, you will be instrumental in the fabrication, assembly, modification, and repair of metal structures, equipment, and pipelines essential for our mining and civil engineering operations. You will interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to ensure the accurate and efficient execution of projects, upholding the highest standards of quality and safety. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and a steadfast commitment to adhering to all safety protocols. You will work with a variety of materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and various alloys, utilizing advanced welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, and MMA, alongside other fabrication tools. The ‘hybrid’ aspect of this role means you will primarily perform intricate fabrication tasks at our central workshop facility in Barkly West, preparing components and structures to exacting standards. Additionally, you will be deployed to various client sites within the Northern Cape for critical installation, repair, and maintenance work. This includes responding to on-site breakdowns, performing preventative maintenance, and commissioning new fabrications, which may require regular travel and flexibility in your daily assignments. Your expertise will directly contribute to the operational efficiency and structural integrity of critical infrastructure, ensuring seamless and safe operations for our clients and partners. Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout and sequence of operations.
- Cut, shape, and form metal plates, sheets, and structural shapes using a variety of tools and machinery.
- Fabricate and assemble metal structures, tanks, pressure vessels, pipework, and other components according to design specifications.
- Perform various welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, MMA) on different materials, ensuring high-quality, durable welds.
- Inspect finished products and structures for quality, accuracy, and adherence to safety standards.
- Conduct routine maintenance and repair on existing metal structures and equipment, both in the workshop and on-site.
- Troubleshoot and rectify mechanical issues related to fabricated components.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with engineering, project management, and other trade teams.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including tools and equipment.
Required Skills
- Valid Boilermaker Trade Test Certificate (Section 13/26D)
- Minimum 4 years of proven experience as a Boilermaker, preferably in mining, heavy engineering, or construction.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
- Expertise in various welding processes (MIG, TIG, MMA) and material types (carbon steel, stainless steel, alloys).
- Strong knowledge of fabrication techniques, metal forming, and cutting tools.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety standards and practices.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in demanding environments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Valid Code B (or higher) driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with site-based maintenance and breakdown repair.
- Additional welding certifications (e.g., ASME, API).
- First Aid and/or relevant safety certifications.
- Prior experience working on mining or large-scale civil infrastructure projects.
