Job Description
Forever Manchester is seeking passionate, experienced, and dedicated individuals to join our Board of Trustees. As a Trustee, you will play a pivotal role in the strategic direction, governance, and overall success of our charity, ensuring we continue to empower local communities across Greater Manchester. This is a unique opportunity to contribute your expertise to a dynamic and impactful organisation, directly influencing how we raise and distribute funds to vital grassroots projects.
Your involvement will be crucial in overseeing the charity’s operations, finances, and strategic development, working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and the senior leadership team. You will ensure that Forever Manchester operates with integrity, transparency, and in full compliance with all regulatory requirements, while steadfastly upholding our mission and values.
This is an unpaid, voluntary position, reflecting a commitment to public service and community betterment. While the role is voluntary, reasonable expenses incurred in the performance of duties will be reimbursed. Board meetings are typically held quarterly, with additional sub-committee meetings and occasional strategic workshops throughout the year. The time commitment is estimated at approximately one to two days per month, including preparation, attendance at meetings, and engagement in specific projects or working groups. Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight, ensuring the charity's mission, vision, and values are consistently met.
- Ensure sound financial management, scrutinising budgets, financial reports, and investment strategies.
- Monitor organisational performance and ensure effective risk management processes are in place.
- Act as an ambassador for Forever Manchester, supporting fundraising initiatives and advocating for our cause.
- Ensure legal and regulatory compliance, upholding the highest standards of governance and accountability.
- Contribute to the development of strategic plans and policies that advance the charity's objectives.
- Appoint, support, and review the performance of the Chief Executive Officer.
- Participate actively in Board meetings, bringing informed perspectives and constructive challenge.
Required Skills
- Demonstrable strategic leadership experience, preferably within a non-profit, public, or private sector board setting.
- Strong understanding of charity governance, regulatory compliance, and best practice.
- Excellent financial literacy and the ability to interpret complex financial information.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with diverse stakeholders.
- A genuine commitment to Forever Manchester's mission and the communities we serve.
- Ability to think critically, exercise sound judgment, and contribute to collective decision-making.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a high-performing board.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Trustee or Non-Executive Director.
- Professional background in finance, law, marketing, fundraising, human resources, or community development.
- A strong network within Greater Manchester's business, public, or third sectors.
- Understanding of the social and economic landscape of Greater Manchester.
- Experience in safeguarding and data protection within a charity context.
