Brodies LLP is seeking an accomplished and dynamic Barrister (or Senior Advocate/Litigator with equivalent experience and qualifications) to join our leading Litigation team in Edinburgh. This is a pivotal role for a legal professional with a distinguished track record in complex advocacy, ready to represent our diverse client base in high-stakes disputes across various sectors. While the title ‘Barrister’ is primarily used in other jurisdictions, we are specifically seeking an individual who embodies the core skills and experience of an experienced advocate – providing expert legal opinions, conducting thorough legal research, and most importantly, delivering compelling oral advocacy in various courts and tribunals within the Scottish legal system, including the Sheriff Courts, Court of Session, and potentially the UK Supreme Court.
You will be instrumental in advising clients on strategic litigation options from initial assessment through to resolution, drafting persuasive legal arguments, preparing comprehensive pleadings, and leading advocacy in hearings, arbitrations, and trials. Key Responsibilities
- Representing clients effectively in court, tribunals, arbitrations, and mediations across Scotland.
- Providing expert legal advice and strategic guidance on complex civil and commercial disputes.
- Drafting comprehensive pleadings, legal opinions, submissions, and other litigation documentation.
- Conducting extensive and meticulous legal research and analysis to support cases.
- Negotiating settlements and engaging in alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
- Managing a demanding caseload efficiently, adhering to strict deadlines and professional standards.
- Collaborating effectively with solicitors, clients, expert witnesses, and other legal professionals.
- Staying abreast of all developments in Scottish law, practice, and procedural rules.

Required Skills
- Admitted to practice as an Advocate in Scotland or a Barrister in England & Wales with demonstrable experience applying Scottish law.
- Proven track record of successful advocacy in Scottish higher courts.

- Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
