Job Description
Urban Coffee & Lounge is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Barista to join our dynamic team in Kado, Abuja. As a Barista, you will be the face of our coffee shop, responsible for crafting a wide range of coffee and tea beverages, ensuring quality, consistency, and speed. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve a variety of coffee drinks (espresso, lattes, cappuccinos, etc.), teas, and other beverages according to Urban Coffee & Lounge's recipes and quality standards.
- Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, and other brewing equipment, ensuring they are always clean and in excellent working condition.
- Engage with customers in a friendly and professional manner, taking orders accurately, answering questions about menu items, and providing recommendations.
- Handle cash and card transactions efficiently, maintaining accurate till records and following all cash handling procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting coffee bar area, including regular cleaning of equipment, countertops, and seating areas.
- Restock inventory for coffee beans, milk, syrups, pastries, and other supplies as needed, reporting any shortages to management.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, particularly concerning food handling and hygiene.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure smooth operations during peak hours and maintain a positive work environment.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures of the coffee shop, as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Barista or in a similar role within a coffee shop or hospitality setting (at least 6 months).
- Thorough knowledge of coffee preparation techniques, espresso machine operation, and coffee bean varieties.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a calm and positive demeanor.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality beverages.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
- Basic math skills for handling transactions and calculating change.
- A passion for coffee and a desire to continuously learn and improve.
Preferred Qualifications
- A certificate or diploma in culinary arts or hospitality.
- Experience with latte art.
- Proficiency in using POS (Point of Sale) systems.
- Ability to speak multiple languages (e.g., Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo) in addition to English.
