Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve a variety of coffee drinks, teas, and other beverages according to recipes and quality standards.
- Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, and other café equipment with care and precision.
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the coffee bar area, including equipment, counters, and seating, adhering to hygiene protocols.
- Provide exceptional customer service, taking orders accurately, handling payments, and professionally resolving any customer concerns or inquiries.
- Maintain accurate inventory of coffee beans, milk, syrups, and other supplies, reporting low stock levels promptly.
- Adhere strictly to all food safety and sanitation regulations to ensure a safe environment for both staff and customers.
- Assist with other café duties as needed, including light food preparation, serving pastries, or restocking shelves.
- Educate customers on menu items, coffee blends, preparation methods, and any daily specials.
- Contribute to a positive and cohesive team environment, fostering strong working relationships with colleagues.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Barista or in a similar customer service role, ideally 6-12 months.
- Strong knowledge of coffee preparation techniques, latte art, and different coffee types (espresso, americano, cappuccino, etc.).
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work efficiently and calmly in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Basic mathematical skills for handling transactions, calculating change, and managing orders.
- High level of cleanliness, organization, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs (approx. 11 kg) when necessary.
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in barista training or a recognized food handling certificate.
- Previous experience with POS (Point of Sale) systems for order processing.
- Familiarity with various alternative brewing methods (e.g., pour-over, AeroPress, French press).
- A genuine passion for coffee culture and ongoing learning about new trends and techniques.
- Ability to speak local languages (e.g., Yoruba) is a significant advantage for customer interaction.
