Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve a variety of coffee beverages, including espresso, latte, cappuccino, and speciality drinks, adhering strictly to Rockview Hotel's quality and presentation standards.
- Operate and maintain all coffee-making equipment, ensuring cleanliness, proper functioning, and regular descaling and calibration.
- Engage with guests in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner, taking orders accurately, answering questions, and providing recommendations based on preferences.
- Handle cash and card transactions accurately and responsibly, using the Point-of-Sale (POS) system and following all financial protocols.
- Monitor inventory levels of coffee beans, milk, syrups, pastries, and other café supplies, reporting needs to management to ensure consistent stock.
- Maintain a meticulously clean and organized workstation, café area, and seating arrangements, ensuring all health and safety standards are consistently met.
- Assist with other food and beverage duties as required, supporting the broader hotel operations during peak hours or special events.
- Adhere to all hotel policies, procedures, and brand standards, including dress code and guest interaction guidelines.
- Contribute to a positive team environment by communicating effectively and working collaboratively with colleagues across various departments.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 1.5 years (18 months) of proven experience as a Barista in a hotel, cafe, or reputable restaurant setting.
- Excellent knowledge of coffee preparation techniques, bean varieties, and espresso machine operation.
- Strong customer service skills with a friendly, approachable, and professional attitude.
- Ability to work efficiently and calmly in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining high quality standards.
- Basic mathematical proficiency for cash handling, order calculations, and inventory tracking.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with guests and team members.
- High level of personal hygiene, attention to detail, and commitment to cleanliness.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in coffee making or formal barista training from a recognized institution.
- Proficiency in latte art and other decorative coffee presentation techniques.
- Experience with various brewing methods beyond espresso (e.g., pour-over, French press, cold brew).
- Possession of a valid food handler's permit or thorough knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Previous experience working in a luxury hotel or a high-end hospitality environment.
- Ability to speak multiple languages (e.g., local Nigerian languages like Yoruba or Igbo, French) is a valuable asset.
