The Daily Bake is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Baker – Assistant Trainee to join our early shift team in Richards Bay. This is an incredible opportunity for an individual with little to no prior professional baking experience, but a strong desire to learn and grow within the food industry. As an Assistant Trainee, you will work closely with our experienced bakers, learning the foundational techniques, recipes, and operational standards that define The Daily Bake’s quality. You will be an integral part of our morning production, ensuring that our display cases are stocked with fresh, irresistible treats for our customers as soon as we open. This role demands an early riser, a quick learner, and someone who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior bakers in the preparation of ingredients, including measuring, mixing, and shaping doughs for various bread, pastry, and cake items.
- Learn and accurately follow recipes and production schedules under the guidance of experienced staff to ensure consistency and quality.
- Operate and maintain basic bakery equipment, such as mixers, ovens, and proofers, ensuring proper usage and safety protocols.
- Participate in the baking and finishing processes of various products, including baking, decorating, and packaging.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation, ensuring all tools and equipment are sanitized according to health and safety standards.
- Assist with receiving and storing raw materials, verifying quantities and quality upon delivery.
- Monitor inventory of ingredients and report needs to supervisors to ensure adequate stock levels.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment, communicating effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
Required Skills
- Ability to work early morning shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- Strong work ethic and a genuine eagerness to learn the craft of baking.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively in a team.
- Basic understanding of kitchen hygiene and food safety practices.
- Good physical stamina, capable of standing for extended periods and lifting up to 20kg.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills for following recipes and instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous informal experience in a kitchen or food preparation environment (e.g., home baking, school projects).
- A formal qualification in culinary arts or baking is a plus, but not required.
- A valid Food Handler’s Permit (or willingness to obtain one upon employment).
