Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive diagnostic tests on vehicles to accurately identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions using specialized computer diagnostic equipment and manual tools.
- Execute precise and effective repairs and replacements of faulty components, including but not limited to engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering systems, suspension, and air conditioning units.
- Conduct thorough routine maintenance services, such as oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks, and filter replacements, strictly in accordance with manufacturer specifications and service schedules.
- Inspect vehicles systematically for visible damage, signs of wear, or fluid leaks and provide clear, detailed service recommendations to service advisors and customers.
- Disassemble and reassemble engines, transmissions, and other complex automotive components, ensuring all parts are correctly installed and torqued to manufacturer specifications.
- Repair or replace intricate electrical wiring, sensors, and electronic components, utilizing wiring schematics and advanced diagnostic tools.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date records of all services performed, parts used, and diagnostic findings for each vehicle.
- Adhere strictly to all safety guidelines and workshop procedures, including the proper and consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Communicate effectively and professionally with service advisors and customers regarding vehicle issues, proposed repair processes, and estimated completion times.
- Stay continuously updated with the latest automotive technologies, repair techniques, and manufacturer service bulletins through ongoing learning and participation in training programs.
Required Skills
- Advanced automotive diagnostic skills (using scan tools, oscilloscopes, and multimeters)
- Proficiency in engine repair, rebuild, and overhaul (both petrol and diesel engines)
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with automatic and manual transmission systems
- Expertise in braking systems, including ABS, disc, and drum brakes, and hydraulic systems
- Competence in vehicle electrical systems, wiring diagrams, and electronic control units (ECUs)
- Extensive experience with air conditioning (AC) system diagnosis, repair, and recharging
- Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems common in automotive applications
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities to diagnose complex issues
- Meticulous attention to detail and precision in all aspects of mechanical work
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills for customer and team interaction
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical certification from a recognized automotive institution (e.g., City & Guilds, NABTEB, or equivalent advanced diploma)
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience with specific automotive brands represented by Mandilas (e.g., Volkswagen, Skoda, Mercedes-Benz, Fuso)
- Advanced training or certification in automotive electronics or specialized diagnostic software platforms
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and proficiency in driving various vehicle types
- Ability to mentor or lead junior technicians and apprentices, demonstrating leadership potential
