Tyre & Auto Klipheuwel is seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Auto Mechanic to join our team in a pioneering remote capacity. This unique role is designed for a seasoned automotive professional who excels in diagnostics, technical problem-solving, and providing expert guidance without needing to be physically present in a workshop every day. As our Remote Auto Mechanic, you will be the linchpin for complex diagnostic challenges, providing critical technical support to our field technicians, in-house mechanics, and even our customers through virtual channels. Your responsibilities will span across remote vehicle health assessments, detailed parts research, and offering virtual troubleshooting assistance for a wide range of automotive systems, from engine management to advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert remote diagnostic assistance and technical support to field technicians and in-house mechanics via phone, video conferencing, and specialized diagnostic software.
- Conduct virtual vehicle health assessments and guide customers or technicians through initial troubleshooting steps.
- Research complex automotive issues, access digital service manuals, and interpret wiring diagrams and technical bulletins.
- Identify and verify correct parts for repairs, assisting with remote parts procurement and inventory management.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge base of common vehicle faults, repair procedures, and diagnostic strategies.
- Offer virtual quality assurance checks on completed repairs, reviewing photos, videos, and diagnostic reports.
- Assist in the scheduling and dispatching of mobile service units based on remote diagnostic findings.
- Provide remote training and mentorship to junior mechanics on advanced diagnostic techniques and new vehicle technologies.
- Stay updated with the latest automotive technology, tools, and repair methods through continuous remote learning and certifications.
- Document all remote diagnostic sessions, repair advice, and technical guidance accurately in the company's system.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as an Auto Mechanic or Automotive Technician (minimum 4 years).
- Exceptional diagnostic and problem-solving abilities across various vehicle makes and models.
- Proficiency with modern automotive diagnostic tools and software (e.g., scan tools, oscilloscopes, OEM diagnostic platforms).
- Strong computer literacy and comfort with various digital communication and collaboration tools (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, remote desktop software).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear and concise technical guidance.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain high productivity in a remote environment.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- ASE or relevant industry certifications (e.g., MIWA, Merseta) in multiple automotive areas.
- Experience in a technical support, remote diagnostic, or mobile mechanic coordination role.
- Proficiency in advanced vehicle systems, including ADAS, EV/Hybrid technology, and complex electronics.
- Familiarity with automotive parts databases and supply chain management systems.
- A relevant diploma or degree in Automotive Technology or a related field.
