The Kaduna State Agricultural Development Project (KADP) is actively seeking a diligent and compassionate Animal Feeder to join our dedicated team in Kaduna. In this pivotal role, you will be at the forefront of our animal care operations, bearing primary responsibility for the daily nourishment and hydration of various livestock species under our care. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and distribute appropriate feed and water to various livestock species (poultry, goats, sheep, cattle, etc.) according to established feeding protocols and schedules.
- Monitor animal feed intake and identify any changes in eating habits or signs of distress.
- Clean and sanitize feeding equipment, water troughs, and animal housing areas regularly to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Assist with basic animal health checks, including observing animals for signs of illness, injury, or unusual behavior, and reporting findings to the farm supervisor or veterinarian.
- Maintain accurate records of feed consumption, animal movements, and any health treatments administered.
- Assist with the handling and movement of animals as required, ensuring their safety and minimizing stress.
- Support other farm operations as needed, including cleaning, maintenance, and general upkeep of the animal units.
- Adhere strictly to all biosecurity protocols and safety regulations to prevent disease transmission and ensure a safe working environment.
- Ensure consistent availability of fresh, clean water for all animals.
Required Skills
- Proven experience or strong interest in animal care and handling, particularly with farm animals.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and feeding schedules accurately.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting feed bags (up to 25kg), bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong sense of responsibility and reliability.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic observational skills to detect changes in animal health or behavior.
- Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Secondary School Certificate or equivalent.
- Previous experience working on a farm, ranch, or animal care facility for at least 6 months.
- Knowledge of basic animal nutrition and common livestock diseases.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and/or Hausa.
