Job Description
We are seeking a highly dedicated and proactive Airport Operations Officer to join our critical operations team at Sharjah International Airport. This role is fundamental to maintaining the highest standards of safety, security, and efficiency across all airport functions, particularly within the airside and landside operational areas. The successful candidate will be a key player in ensuring that all airport activities comply with local and international aviation regulations, including GCAA and ICAO standards.
As an Airport Operations Officer, you will be on the front lines, responding to dynamic operational requirements, managing routine inspections, and coordinating responses to incidents and emergencies. This position demands a keen eye for detail, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to make swift, informed decisions under pressure. You will be instrumental in fostering strong communication channels between various airport stakeholders, including airlines, ground handlers, air traffic control, customs, immigration, and security agencies, to ensure synchronized and effective airport performance. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspections of airside and landside areas, including runways, taxiways, aprons, parking areas, and terminal facilities, to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Monitor airport activities to identify and mitigate potential hazards, operational disruptions, or security breaches.
- Respond promptly to operational incidents, emergencies (e.g., aircraft incidents, medical emergencies, security alerts), and coordinate with emergency services and relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety regulations, and environmental policies.
- Liaise and coordinate effectively with airlines, ground handling companies, Air Traffic Control (ATC), immigration, customs, security, and other airport departments to facilitate smooth operations.
- Prepare detailed incident reports, operational logs, and daily activity summaries, maintaining accurate records of all operational events.
- Assist in the development and implementation of operational plans, policies, and procedures.
- Monitor weather conditions and NOTAMs (Notices to Airmen) for potential impact on airport operations and communicate relevant information to stakeholders.
- Participate in emergency drills and training programs to maintain a high level of preparedness.
- Provide guidance and support to junior staff or temporary personnel during critical operations.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in airport operations or a related aviation field.
- In-depth knowledge of airport operational procedures, safety regulations, and security protocols.
- Proficiency in aviation regulatory frameworks (GCAA, ICAO).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effective liaison with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a proven track record of decision-making under pressure.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment, including shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant airport operational software.
- Valid UAE Driving License.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Airport Operations, or a related field.
- Experience with Airport Operational Database (AODB) systems.
- Additional language proficiency (e.g., Arabic).
- Certifications in airport emergency management or aviation safety.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role within an airport environment.
